Preparing High Schools Students for the University and Life after
Graduation

Abstract. Results of an exploratory study conducted by the author with a sample of female students and faculty at King Saud University showed that secondary schools do not prepare students for university studies and life after graduating from school and university. The students need to acquire some skills that are important for succeeding in college and life after graduation. Based on the students' needs assessment and analysis, this study proposes some skills for preparing high school students for university studies and life after graduation which include goal setting and planning, time management skills, study skills, exam preparation skills, higher-level thinking skills, public speaking skills and others which are described herein in detail. To test the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed skills, this study recommends conducting an experimental study with a sample of high school students who will receive training in the proposed skills. They can be followed up during their studies in college and after graduation to find out the effect of skill training on their achievement level in high school and in college compared to another group of high school students who have not received such training. Modifications can be made accordingly, i.e., some skills can be added, some deleted, and others modified.

Подготовка школьников старшего звена к университету и жизни

Аннотация. Результаты исследования, проведенного автором на выборке, представленной преподавателями и студентами женского пола Университета короля Сауда, показали, что средние школы не готовят обучающихся к учебе в университете и жизни после окончания школы и университета. Студентам необходимо приобрести некоторые навыки, которые важны для успеха в колледже и жизни после окончания учебы. На основе оценки и анализа потребностей учащихся в этом исследовании предлагаются некоторые навыки для подготовки старшеклассников к учебе в университете и жизни после окончания учебы, в том числе постановка целей и планирование, навыки тайм-менеджмента, навыки учебы, навыки подготовки к экзаменам, навыки мышления более высокого уровня, навыки публичных выступлений и другие, которые подробно описаны в данном исследовании. Чтобы проверить осуществимость и эффективность предлагаемых навыков, в настоящем исследовании рекомендуется провести экспериментальное исследование с выборкой старшеклассников, которые получат предлагаемые навыки. За ними можно наблюдать во время учебы в колледже и после окончания учебы, чтобы выяснить влияние обучения навыкам на уровень их успеваемости в старшей школе и колледже по сравнению с другой группой старшеклассников, которые не получали такого обучения. Соответствующим образом могут быть внесены изменения, т. е. некоторые навыки могут быть добавлены, некоторые удалены, а другие изменены.
