Differentiate instruction: Cater to different learning styles by offering a variety of activities and resources. Assess and adapt: Regularly evaluate students' progress and adjust teaching methods based on their needs and strengths. Indirect vocabulary instruction involves students' learning words and their meanings through daily conversations and through independent reading. Teachers need to consistently use new and interesting words as part of classroom instruction.
Repetition and multiple exposures: In order to learn and retain new vocabulary, students need to be exposed to the words repeatedly. Given multiple exposures to the same word used in a meaningful context, students are more likely to retain and use the word. It is crucial that children have explicit and robust instruction in vocabulary, to support their verbal and written communication. The explicit teaching of vocabulary allows students to access academic language and discourse, and facilitates their comprehension of increasingly complex texts.
