Phonostylistics is a branch of phonetics which is concerned with the problem of giving a more detailed classification of phonetic styles and the identification of the style-forming means, the phonetic features that enable the native speaker to distinguish intuitively between different styles of pronunciation.

derivation, and some have retained their basic meaning. In this case, the metaphor represents an independent construction that complements or transforms the original meaning of the article. In the second case, the one-word title takes on a metaphorical meaning in light of the content of the article. The reader goes from a word with a specific meaning (which he sees in the title) to a metaphorical text, then correlates the title with a specific event and returns to the metaphorical title. This is a kind of game that brings aesthetic pleasure to the reader and makes you think.

Since much attention to the language of the newspaper is due to the important role of the media in modern society, numerous problems of the newspaper language - its nature, essence, specificity, purpose, composition of means, stylistic characteristics, etc. - are relevant at the present time.

The newspaper is the most important sphere of the existence of language, in which the formation of new meanings and new linguistic means takes place to denote new phenomena in modern society. It is obvious that the language of the newspaper is currently being studied very actively from the linguistic aspect.

Considering newspaper texts as a reflection of the most important linguistic processes in modern society and observing many processes reflected in the language of the press for the period 1990 - 1994, G. Y. Solganik writes: "After a long reign of monotony, template, unification and officiality in modern newspapers are struck first of all by their diversity - linguistic, stylistic, content and ideological. The abolition of censorship, ideological taboos, and strict stylistic guidelines led to the emancipation of the traditionally standardized newspaper language".

Phonostylistics, so it studies the features of style at phonological level, which is considered to be the basic level of linguistic analysis. Phonological processes are here considered as style features. They are used to emphasis the point of the author to stress a particular word or sound to reveal its importance in the discourse. They are used to bring out the mood and the intensity of emotion of the characters. Phonological features are used to describe the sociological background too. The analysis of the text of Golding's Lord of the Flies brings into light certain phonological features such as phonological reduction and modified physical appearance of words etc. These phonological elements are elaborately dealt with examples from the novel.

The title of this chapter sounds like a contradiction in terms. Indeed, 'phonostylistics' implies spoken discourse and has apparently nothing to do with the written text. However, until the fourth century ad, it was customary to read texts aloud and the dichotomy between the written (scripta) and the spoken text (verba) was not as clear cut as it is today (Manguel 1997). Silent readers mentally reconstruct the fictional voices of characters that never existed. Furthermore, as Léon (1993: 29) explains: Any given language is spoken before it is written. That is why even the most abstract piece of writing retains some biological and physiological traces of spoken language: sounds, rhythms and intonation contours. Whether the writer wants it or not, any piece of writing betrays its oral origin. (my translation) From this perspective, 'phonostylistics' is central to the reading process and may be used on two different planes.

Phonostylistics is a rapidly developing and controversial field of study though a great deal of research work has been done in it.

It would not be accurate to say that phonostylistics is a new branch of phonetics.

It is rather a new way of looking at phonetic phenomena. Linguists were until recently not aware of this way of analysis and awareness came only as a result of detailed analysis of spoken speech. The information about stylistic variations in learning, understanding and producing. Language is directly useful for the design, execution and evaluation of teaching phonetics.

The branch of phonetics most usually applied for such information is phonostylistics.

Deal of research work has been done in it. It would not be accurate to say that phonostylistics is a new branch of phonetics. It is rather a new way of looking at phonetic phenomena. Phonostylistic is concerned with the study of phonetic phenomena and processes from the stylistic point of view. It cropped up as a result of a certain amount of functional overlap between phonetics and stylistics.

Intonation plays a central role in stylistic differentiation of oral texts. Stylistically explicable deviations from

intonational norms reveal conventional patterns differing from language to language. Examples would include the controlled use of breathy or creaky voice, spasmodic features (such as giggling while speaking), and the use of secondary articulation (such as lip-rounding or nazalization) to produce a tone of voice signalling attitude, social role or some other language-specific meaning.
