The court music of the Ming Dynasty is an important part of the history of ancient Chinese music. Academic research on the court music of the Ming Dynasty mainly focuses on ritual music. These studies have enriched our understanding of the court music of the Ming Dynasty and are of great academic significance. However, existing research focuses on topical discussions and lacks overall consideration.

Key words: Ming Dynasty; court music; ritual music

Ritual music is an important part of court music. All feudal dynasties have paid attention to the construction of ritual music. Recent research in this field is mainly reflected in the following two aspects:

Rituals of the Ming Dynasty Research on the Functional Construction, Changes and Impact of Music Mao Peiqi's "The Retroduction and Failure of Music in the Ming Dynasty" combed the reasons for the production and failure of ritual music in the Ming Dynasty, and analyzed the phenomenon of Zhu Yuanzhang's failure to restore elegant music and the rise of folk music. Zhang Guanghui's "Research on the Construction of the Ritual System in the Early Ming Dynasty - Focusing on the Hongwu Dynasty" examines the construction process of the five rites in the early Ming Dynasty and the basic characteristics of the ritual system. Li Yueqiang's "Research on the Educational Function of the Ministry of Rites in the Ming Dynasty" examines the evolution, establishment and functions of the Ministry of Rites in the Ming Dynasty, and analyzes the ideological, cultural and educational functions of the Ministry of Rites. Zheng Li's "The Production of Ritual and Music in the Hongwu Dynasty and the Resurgence of Court Drama in the Ming Dynasty" combs the production of ritual and music in the Hongwu Dynasty and its impact on the development of drama. Dong Xutong's "Analysis of the Changes in Concepts of Ritual and Music from the Sui and Tang Dynasties to the Ming Dynasty" sorted out the music used in the ritual system in the Ming Dynasty, examined the musicians and institutions carrying the ritual music system in the Ming Dynasty, and analyzed the music used in the five rituals and music in the Ming Dynasty.

Research on the ceremonial music of the Ming Dynasty Lu Yali's "Ming Dynasty Court Music" combed and studied the sacrificial music, court music and banquet music of the Ming Dynasty court music. The section on court music discusses sacrificial music and chaohe music. Sacrifice music belongs to auspicious rituals, while chaohe music belongs to jiali. The part about Chaohe music is very short, and the article focuses more on the part about sacrificial music. Xiang Yang's "Jiaofang for Small Sacrificial Music, a New Type of Music for Jili in the Ming Dynasty" analyzes the significance of the concept of using Jiaofang for small sacrificial music, studies the sound form of small sacrificial music, and its connection with the current folk belief tradition of using music for sacrifices. Li Yanjing's "On Ritual and Music in the Ming Dynasty's Bin Li System" combs the evolution and development of the Ming Dynasty's Bin Li system, as well as the types, forms, and characteristics of the music used in the Ming Dynasty's Bin Li system. Ren Fangbing's "On the Construction of Military Rituals and Their Music in the Ming Dynasty" combs the construction process of military rituals in the Ming Dynasty and the content, classification and formal characteristics of military rituals and music. Sun Yun's "Research on the Affinity of Buddhist Music and Court Ceremony Music - Taking Wutai Mountain Buddhism and Court Ceremony Music of the Ming and Qing Dynasties as Examples" analyzes the tunes of the court ceremony music of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and combines "All Buddhas, World Honored Tathagata and Bodhisattva" Comparative analysis of "Songs of His Holiness" with the music used in court ceremonies in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the Buddhist music used in Mount Wutai and the music used in court ceremonies in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and the connection between court music and folk music, and the

connection between Buddhist music. Xiang Lin's "Research on Music Used in Military Ceremonies in the Ming Dynasty" combs the classification and characteristics of military ceremonies, the structure of music used in military ceremonies, the characteristics of musical instruments used, the number of musicians and the types of music. The above research involves many aspects such as the creation and evolution of court rituals and music in the Ming Dynasty, but there are also shortcomings: first, it emphasizes "ritual" but not "music", focusing on the study of "ritual system" and insufficient research on the "music" ontology used in ritual system. . Secondly, research on the music used in the five rites mostly discusses the music used in auspicious rites, guest rites, and military rites. Few scholars pay attention to the music used in jiali, and no one considers the overall relationship between the music used in the five rites.

Therefore, the study of Ming Dynasty ritual music is of great significance to the development of modern music.
