Abstract: this article discusses the option of creating a travel guide in paper form. Recommendations for the compilation of the guidebook are worked out, and the routes included in the guidebook are briefly presented, relying on the tourist destination Bayanaul as an example.
Keywords: travel guide, Pavlodar region, map, tourist destination.
The modern tourist has a wide access to information: it is quite easy to download a map of the area with all the objects into a smartphone, and the Internet is always at hand. A paper guide book can attract a traveler if it is different from many others. However, it is appropriate to use a paper version of the guide, as it is available, compact, works without the Internet and is easy to understand for any user.
A travel guide is a printed, electronic, or audio-visual guide about a city, country, historical place, museum, or tourist route.
According to the type of publication, a guidebook is classified as a reference, according to the definition: "a publication containing brief information of a scientific or applied nature, arranged in an order convenient for their quick search» [1].
The main task is to be accurate when describing objects and facts. You need to rely on proven facts - the world around you is constantly changing.
Further, it is very important to analyze the existing, published reference books, use the best examples of structure and forms

when creating a guide, and strive for the uniqueness of the presentation of information and data.
The most important point of preparation is the development of the concept of the future publication. At the same time, it is necessary to take into account its functional purpose, the reader's address, and the nature of the information contained in it. Thus, the guide to tourist destinations is characterized by conciseness and accessibility of information, as well as a special approach to the design of the publication.
A reference book (guidebook) is a publication that has an applied, practical nature, has a systematic structure or is built according to the alphabet of the titles of articles. According to the symbolic nature of information, a text reference book is distinguished, most of the volume of which is taken up by verbal, digital, formula or mixed text, and a visual reference book (guide), in which the main role is played by illustrations [2].
The structure of the guidebook is usually subordinated to the recommended routes of sightseeing in a particular area.
The composition of the reference publication includes an accompanying article (preface), lists of abbreviations and symbols, a reference system, an auxiliary index, a bibliographic list and content (table of contents). It is mandatory to have an alphabetical index in the guidebook. The guidebook also usually contains a preface that briefly provides general information about this publication, explains its goals and contains recommendations for its use. It is recommended to use visual and communicative elements, the presence of a table of contents and a variable footer related to them is mandatory [3].
What you need to include in the guide:
In addition to historical and cultural sites, the content of the guide may include useful information about the best hotels, shops, cafes (with special menu), sports facilities, prices for tickets to museums, entertainment venues, information about various operating transport routes, and so on. Descriptions of seasonal and religious events, such as festivals, as well as walking tours of interesting places with detailed maps will be relevant.
Special attention is paid to illustrations. High-quality design of the guide is an important aspect of its success with the readership.
The concept of the publication also takes into account quantitative indicators. Reference publications differ in the degree of completeness of information, which depends on the specific target and reader purpose of the publication. It is necessary to determine what degree of completeness of the material in the future edition is optimal, and to observe it in all sections (thematic and structural).
