USING TECHNICAL TERMS IN TEACHING ENGLISH
Annotation: The article examines the integration of technical terms in English language teaching, highlighting their potential to enhance learners' understanding and application of linguistic concepts. It explores how technical terms such as "morphology," "syntax," "phonetics," and "pragmatics" serve as tools for developing metalinguistic awareness, enabling students to analyze and comprehend the structure and function of language.
The discussion includes the benefits of familiarizing learners with these terms, particularly in advanced levels of study, where they aid in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical language use. Challenges such as the risk of overwhelming learners with jargon and strategies to mitigate these issues— such as contextualizing terms and using examples—are also addressed.

In today's globalized world, English has become a key language for international communication and knowledge exchange. It serves as a primary medium in fields such as technology, science, business, and many others. Hence, incorporating technical terms into English language teaching plays a vital role in modern education. Technical terms not only enhance general language skills but also prepare learners for success in their respective professional domains.
Technical terms refer to specific words and phrases associated with certain fields or disciplines. These terms can be beneficial not only in professional contexts but also in everyday communication. Including technical terminology in English teaching equips learners with the tools they need to navigate real-life situations effectively.
Integrating technical terms into English teaching provides learners with practical, real-world language experience. Learners acquire new vocabulary and learn to apply it in various contexts.
1. Adapting Language to Real-Life Scenarios
For students aspiring to work in fields like engineering or medicine, learning technical terminology is crucial for their future careers. This helps them build confidence and familiarity with the language used in their industry.
2. Expanding Learners' Vocabulary
Technical terms encourage learners to explore and grasp more complex linguistic concepts. They not only master common words but also gain an understanding of sophisticated expressions and ideas.
3. Practical Use in Classroom Activities
Effective methods for incorporating technical terms include project-based tasks and problem-solving exercises. For example, discussions revolving around technical vocabulary help students develop critical thinking skills. Role-playing scenarios allow them to simulate professional situations where technical terms are commonly used.
While technical terms provide valuable learning opportunities, they can be challenging for some students. The difficulty may arise from complex pronunciations, meanings, or contextual usage. Below are some strategies to overcome these hurdles:
• Using Visual Aids and Contextual Materials
Diagrams, charts, and sample texts can simplify the understanding of complex terms. These tools provide learners with a visual connection to abstract ideas.
• Relating Terms to Everyday Life
For instance, explaining "software" as part of everyday technology makes it more relatable and easier to understand.
• Repetition and Practice
Repeatedly using technical terms in different scenarios helps reinforce their meanings and applications.
Using technical terms in teaching English is an effective way to enhance both language proficiency and professional skills. By aligning lessons with real-life applications, simplifying complex terms, and catering to learners' specific needs, educators can create a more engaging and impactful learning environment. Technical terminology equips learners with the skills necessary for global success and ensures they are prepared to meet the demands of the modern world.
