Abstract. Intentional analysis is a crucial tool for understanding the complexities of fiction literature. This article delves into the significance of intentional analysis in unraveling the underlying meanings and authorial intentions in works of fiction. Through an examination of various literary theories and critical approaches, this article seeks to elucidate the value of intentional analysis in interpreting and appreciating fiction literature.
Аннотация. Интенциональный анализ — важнейший инструмент для понимания сложностей художественной литературы. В данной статье рассматривается значение интенционального анализа для понимания глубинных смыслов и авторских намерений в художественных произведениях. Через рассмотрение различных литературных теорий и критических подходов статья стремится прояснить ценность интенционального анализа в интерпретации и оценке художественная литературы.

Fiction literature, through its diverse narratives and multifaceted characters, offers an intricate tapestry of human experience and societal reflections. Central to the understanding of these narratives is intentional analysis, a method that seeks to uncover the purposeful constructs of the author within the text. Intentional analysis is integral in unveiling the layers of meaning and significance embedded within fiction literature. By closely examining the intentions of the author, readers can gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the nuanced elements present in the work [1].
Indeed, intentional analysis plays a crucial role in unraveling the complexities of fiction literature. It involves closely examining the author's conscious choices, intentions, and artistic techniques employed within the text. By delving into the author's purpose, readers can gain valuable insights into the narrative's underlying themes, character development, symbolism, and social commentary. Intentional analysis helps readers recognize the author's deliberate use of language, narrative structure, and literary devices to convey specific messages or evoke certain emotions. It allows readers to explore the motivations behind character actions, the significance of recurring motifs, and the overall artistic vision of the author.

Through intentional analysis, readers can engage in a deeper exploration of the text, critically examining how the author's choices contribute to the overall impact and meaning of the work [2]. It encourages readers to consider the historical, cultural, and social contexts in which the author wrote, enriching their understanding of the text's significance within a broader literary landscape.
It's important to note that intentional analysis does not imply that there is only one correct interpretation or that the author's intentions are the sole determinants of meaning. Readers bring their own perspectives and experiences to the text, and multiple interpretations can coexist. However, intentional analysis provides a valuable lens through which readers can engage with the author's creative decisions and enrich their own understanding of the work.
By employing intentional analysis, readers can uncover the intricate tapestry of human experiences and societal reflections woven within fiction literature, fostering a deeper appreciation for the artistry and impact of these narratives. The application of intentional analysis draws upon various literary theories, each offering unique perspectives on the role of authorial intention in understanding fiction literature. Structuralism emphasizes the interconnectedness of narrative elements and the author's deliberate construction of meaning. Post-structuralism, on the other hand, challenges the notion of a fixed authorial intention and explores the plurality of interpretations within a text [3]. Reader-response theory underscores the active role of the reader in shaping meaning, while intentional fallacy theory raises questions about the relevance of authorial intention in interpreting a text. These theories provide a framework for intentional analysis, enriching the understanding of fiction literature through diverse lenses.
Intentional analysis is required to identify the functional aspects of speech acts, that is, it refers to an analysis directed towards identifying the communicative purpose of linguistic actions. In intentional analysis, the communicative goal underlying speech activity in the communicative process is examined, along with its related stages [5]. Typically, proponents of this analysis method (Searle 1983) view each speech act as having a single purpose (single intention) associated with it as a unitary entity. According to Professor Oleg Georgievich Pocheptsov from Kyiv University statement, "linguistic action and reaching the main goal expressed in this action through communication is only one stage" [7]. Therefore, the scholar suggests dividing the overall intention into two parts: "initial intention (purpose)" and "resultant intention". This type of intentional analysis indeed allows for a more comprehensive understanding of the content of speech activity [6].
Critical approaches such as psychoanalytic criticism, feminist criticism, and postcolonial criticism contribute to intentional analysis by illuminating the sociocultural, historical, and psychological dimensions of authorial intent. Psychoanalytic criticism delves into the subconscious motives of the author, unveiling hidden meanings and symbols within the text. Feminist criticism highlights the gender dynamics and power structures embedded in the author's intentions, while postcolonial criticism unravels the colonial legacies and cultural representations manifest in literary works. These critical approaches enhance intentional analysis by contextualizing the author's intentions within broader sociohistorical frameworks [8, 9].
Despite its significance, intentional analysis is not without challenges and controversies. The debate surrounding the relevance of authorial intention in literary interpretation has sparked considerable discourse within the field of literary studies. Critics argue that privileging the author's intention might limit the plurality of meanings and readerly interpretations. Furthermore, the elusive nature of authorial intent poses challenges in accurately discerning the intentions behind a work, particularly in cases where the authorial context is obscure or inaccessible. These challenges underscore the complexities inherent in intentional analysis and stimulate ongoing scholarly inquiry.

Harper Lee's renowned novel "To Kill a Mockingbird" serves as a compelling case study for intentional analysis. By closely examining Lee's life, historical context, and the narrative choices made in the novel, intentional analysis reveals the depth of social critique woven into the story [10]. Harper Lee grew up in the racially segregated South during the 1930s, a period marked by significant racial tension and inequality. Intentional analysis allows readers to understand how Lee's personal experiences and observations of the social climate influenced her deliberate construction of the narrative. Through intentional analysis, readers can discern Lee's intention to shed light on racial injustice. The character of Atticus Finch, for example, represents moral integrity and the pursuit of justice in the face of prejudice. By presenting the story from the perspective of Scout, a young girl navigating the complexities of her surroundings, Lee effectively captures the innocence and moral clarity of childhood, contrasting it with the harsh realities of racism and bigotry [4].
Intentional analysis also reveals Lee's purposeful exploration of universal themes. While the novel is set in a specific time and place, its themes of empathy, conscience, and societal transformation resonate with readers across different contexts and eras. Lee's intention was to create a work that transcends its temporal setting and serves as a catalyst for discussions about social justice and the power of empathy. By engaging in intentional analysis of "To Kill a Mockingbird", readers can uncover the layers of meaning and social commentary embedded within the narrative. It allows for a deeper appreciation of Lee's deliberate choices and the lasting impact of the novel as a profound exploration of societal inequities and the human capacity for compassion and change [4].
Indeed, intentional analysis is an invaluable method for delving into the complexities of authorial intent and meaning in fiction literature. It allows readers to engage with a wide range of literary theories and critical approaches, expanding the interpretative possibilities within the text.
By employing intentional analysis, readers can explore different layers of meaning, symbolism, and thematic elements that may be intentionally crafted by the author. This method encourages a deeper appreciation of the nuanced intricacies present in the narrative, providing insights into the author's purpose and creative choices. Intentional analysis also acknowledges the role of the author within the text and seeks to honor their intentions. It recognizes that authors make deliberate decisions about language, structure, characterization, and other literary elements to convey specific ideas or evoke particular emotions. By engaging with these intentional choices, readers can gain a deeper understanding of the author's vision and the intended impact of the work.
However, it's important to note that intentional analysis is not without its challenges and controversies. Some critics argue that focusing solely on authorial intent limits the potential for diverse interpretations or neglects the role of readers in constructing meaning. Others raise questions about the accessibility of an author's intentions or the potential for unconscious biases to influence interpretations.
Nevertheless, intentional analysis remains a valuable tool in the interpretative landscape of fiction literature. It provides readers with a framework to engage with the text, explore its complexities, and appreciate the intentions and craftsmanship of the author. When used alongside other critical approaches and perspectives, intentional analysis contributes to a richer and more nuanced understanding of fiction literature.
